I am an adorable pet and can be very entertaining. I will swing from the top of my cage, scurry around collecting food to fill my cheek pouches and I love to roll around the floor in a hamster ball. Hamsters like me who are properly socialized can be handled. Because we are nocturnal, waking me during the day can startle me and I may nip you. Because of this and because we have poor eyesight (which may cause me to mistake a small finger for food), young children should be taught to keep fingers out of the cage. We are solitary and must live alone. One hamster per cage ? no exceptions!
